Training & Education

The NACFB is committed to providing Training and Education for Commercial Finance Brokers and over the years has developed a range of training days to cover all aspects of Commercial Finance. This has included Asset Finance, Factoring and Invoice Discounting, Marketing and Fraud training to name just a few. In addition our CPD programme continues and recording is now available on line.

We offer a new qualification to replace the Certificate in Commercial Mortgages, which has been written in conjunction with all the High Street banks. The Certificate in Business Banking and Conduct (CertBB&C) is the standard qualification for all our members and is run by The London Institute of Banking & Finance.


Commercial Finance Expo

The Commercial Finance Expo is the only show in the UK dedicated to the business finance community. Representatives from funders across the business finance arena will be exhibiting. This year the NACFB conference will be held during the Expo, welcoming speakers who can offer a keen insight into different parts of the industry..

Training & Education


The NACFB promotes a wide range of qualifications and training modules through its MyNACFB brand. We ask all our members to complete a minimum of 35 hours of Continuing Professional Development.

We also recommend that members sign up for the London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) exams, particularly the Certificate of Business Banking and Conduct. For more information, please visit

The Certificate in Business Banking and Conduct (CertBB&C®) is a practical and highly relevant qualification for customer facing financial services professionals involved in lending to businesses. It has been designed to develop and enhance understanding of the FSA conduct of business regime, in relation to business banking customers, and to set an independent standard in customer service excellence.

CertBB&C® allows you to demonstrate your commitment to high standards of professionalism and enhances your credentials for a successful career in business banking.

It gives you essential knowledge of the UK business banking environment, a thorough grounding in the workings of the sector and a detailed understanding of the regulatory landscape. It also develops an appreciation of the relationship between financial services organisations and businesses and the different types of solutions available.

Building on this core knowledge, the qualification goes on to develop enhanced understanding of the key processes and information needs related to making business lending decisions. It also develops the essential business development, relationship management and customer service skills required to successfully build and maintain a high performing client portfolio.

Upon successful completion of this qualification you will be able to:

  • Understand the business banking environment and the applicable principles of risk management and lending
  • Show an understanding of the main types of business banking products
  • Apply the skills required to identify and evaluate the most appropriate solution for customers
  • Understand the essential financial and non-financial information and analysis required to effectively make lending decisions
  • Identify the warning signs of potential default and the appropriate actions in response
  • Apply the Conduct of Business Rules to business banking situations and appropriate complaints handling processes
  • Understand the requirement and principles of business development
  • Offer customer service excellence and effective approaches towards relationship management

CertBB&C® is a distance learning qualification, allowing you to study at a pace and time that suits you. A comprehensive set of learning resources is provided at the time of registration, both in hard copy and online via the information gateway my ifslearning. A specimen examination paper is also available to support your studies.

1 hour exam, 50 multiple-choice questions
Unit 2 Providing Solutions to Business Banking Customers
1 hour exam, 3 case studies with
10 multiple-choice questions each

Facts at a glance

  • The ifs Level 3 Certificate in Business Banking and Conduct (CertBB&C®) is a Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) qualification accredited by Ofqual
  • CertBB&C® consists of two mandatory units
  • Registration for CertBB&C® costs £172 (slightly less if you register before July 1st) and includes the learning materials, initial assessment entry and online access to any relevant updated during the regstration period
  • Registrations will be valid for 12 months and you can register at any time
  • The qualification is assessed by a two hour multiple choice examination available on demand at over 150 centres countrywide, with confirmation of your result provided on the day

Post qualification

Upon successful completion of this qualification you will be able to use the desgnation ‘CertBB&C’ after your name.

You may wish to consider further extending your knowledge and competencies by progressing to the Level 4 Diploma in Retail Banking Conduct of Business (DipRBCB®).

DipRBCB® is intended for individuals running, or aspiring to run, retail financial services outlets or those supervising customer-orientated teams.
